Joel Woollen is an artist with deep roots in
southern gospel music. As a child, Joel grew up listening to music
and attending concerts by such groups as The Rambos, The Hinsons,
and The Happy
Goodman
Family. Being the son of a Pentecostal preacher and pastor, he was
singing with his mother and siblings in their church as well as
other churches and camp meetings at a very young age. Joel also
started playing the drums at the age of four and was playing in his
dad’s church by the time he was five. Over the years, he has been
involved in several gospel singing groups. He and his wife,
Marietta, have three boys, Price, Isaac, and Nathan.
In 1999, Joel heard and answered the call of the Lord to pursue a
ministry as a soloist and gospel songwriter. Since that time, he has
been writing songs and ministering in churches as well as other
various gospel music events. In 2003, he had the opportunity to sing
for Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee at the governor’s mansion on
Memorial Day. Joel Woollen’s debut self-titled album was released in
January of 2004. Nine of the ten songs were penned by Joel himself.
From this project there have been two nationwide single releases
which have received great response from southern gospel radio.
Joel Woollen’s goal and mission is to spread the message of Jesus
Christ through gospel music and to see lives touched and changed
through music ministry.
